Last fall, Gladstone High School’s drama department transported the audience to the Zuckerman farm with their fall production of Charlotte’s Web. The beloved tale of friendship between a pig and a spider came to life on the stage. Leading the cast was Gwyn Smith as Wilbur, who captured the innocence and vulnerability of the lovable pig with earnestness. Opposite her, Des Munkres shone as Charlotte, delivering a poignant performance, particularly during the final web-spinning moment.
Other standout performances included Allie Westburg as Templeton the rat, whose comedic timing brought laughter to the crowd, and Sydney Collins as Fern, who portrayed her character’s compassion with grace. The ensemble of barnyard animals added depth and humor.
Behind the scenes, the production excelled in its technical elements. The set design transformed the stage into a rustic farm, complete with a barn and a spider’s web. The lighting enhanced the show’s emotional moments, especially during Charlotte’s final monologue. The costumes added charm and brought the animal characters to life in creative ways.
Overall, Gladstone High School’s production of Charlotte’s Web was a success, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of its students. Bravo to the entire cast and crew for a web well-spun!
